MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Mzimba Luwerezi constituency has made a history for being a first constituency to form a football club in the country.
Named Luwerezi United FC, the club has been formed by the area’s youthful Member of Parliament (MP), Samuel Chirwa.
Chirwa who is a sponsor of the club said the decision came after successfully holding number of football bonanza in the area.
“As a youth, I have been holding series of football bonanza even before becoming an MP of this area. This was after seeing problems the youths were/are facing because of unemployment. But through that, the initiative has graduated to this level,” he disclosed.
According to Chirwa, the club is currently playing at the district level but next week it will join northern region premier division league and then the country’s TNM super league.
“We are going well at district level and with this spirit, I believe that we shall continue with the same pace even at the national level. This is for the community and not political,” he added.
The Mzimba Luwerezi MP disclosed that he has brought new football jersey as well as other materials for the club from America where he was.
A renowned football pundit in the north, Jackson Msiska has applauded the legislator for the development.
According to Msiska, at the grassroot level, football plays a pivotal role in the community development.
“Local clubs and youth teams become nurturing environments where young players not only hone their athletic skills but also imbibe vital life lessons such as teamwork, discipline, and leadership,” he said.
Msiska then urged other MPs to emulate the same in order to improve the lives of the community as well as the country’s football standards.
