Zambian Catholic priest Fr. William Banda shot dead in South Africa
PRETORIA-(MaraviPost)-Father William Banda who hailed from Zambia was shot dead in the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tzaneen, South Africa on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
The body of Reverend Father Banda was laid to rest on Saturday Tzaneen diocesan cemetery in South Africa.
Talking to one of the priests of the missionaries of St. Patrick’s (Fr. Denis) the sad incident happened on Wednesday 13th March morning.
It is said that a certain man entered the Church during morning prayer and sat next to Fr. William Banda and after morning prayer as the priest went to sacristy to vest for mass the man followed him in the sacristy and shot him in the neck and in the head and off he left joining his friend who was waiting for him in a car outside.
Fr. William Banda hailed from Zambia and was a batch mate of the late Fr. Martin Kavisu SPS a Kenyan priest who died in a tragic car accident in Malawi in December 2023.
