LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The journey in Malawi’s Central Region second tier commences today as the association is ready to launch the MK19.8 million league in Dowa.
Blue Eagles football team, who return to the league after 23 years in the elite league, will battle it out for the first three points against Dzaleka Future during the launch ceremony at Dowa Community ground.
Blue Eagles gaffer, Eliah Kananji, says the preparations have been well and his boys are geared and mentally ready for the season.
Kananji has since asked the management for support, saying that’s the only way the boys will get motivated and return to the elite league next season.
“We are ready for the season; boys have promised to fight back to the elite league. I am upbeat; we will make it though I know it won’t be easy as there are equally good teams in the league. Hence, we have to put more effort and dedication,” said Kananji.
The Policemen were relegated last year in the TNM Super League after suffering a 2-1 home defeat to MAFCO, a team which they also defeated in the 2002-2003 season in the Central Region Lilongwe and District League with the same margin in Salima to earn promotion into the elite league.
Meanwhile, the Central Region Football Association (CRFA) has emphasized discipline to ensure a clean season in 2024.
“We will be stringent this season; we don’t want any sorts of match-fixing. Any team failing to honor fixtures will be fined K500,000, and if the team misses three games, they will be expelled from the league,” the body’s general secretary, Antonio Manda, said during the annual general meeting.
Last season, the league was marred with match-fixing allegations. CRECK Sporting Club were the Champions from the Central Region.
