Malawi’s Tabitha joins Arkema Première Ligue Champions Olympique Lyonnais

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi National women’s football team captain Tabitha Chawinga has joined the Arkema Première Ligue Champions Olympique Lyonnais Feminin from Chinese outfit Wuhan Jianghan.

The lethal attacker has signed a three-year contract which will keep her at Lyon till 2027.

Speaking to this publication after signing the contract in France, Chawinga said, “I am very excited about clinching the new deal but first of all let me thank God for this.

“I am upbeat that I will replicate what I did last season in the league and even beyond that. Let me acknowledge that I will need support from stakeholders including journalists and fans who often encourage me.”

The star has been attracting the attention of teams in Europe with her splendid speed and scoring ability but has finally settled for the French Women’s Champions as she aims at replicating the performance that she has been displaying since making a breakthrough.

Last season the Scorchers captain played for Paris Saint-German on loan from her parent club Wuhan, and won the Golden Boot accolade in the league with 19 goals and 10 assists.

Paris Saint-German finished as 2024 league runners-up to the Champions Lyon after losing in the final play-offs.

Chawinga won the championship of the Cup De France after they thumped rivals Paris Football Club, She also finished as a top goal scorer with 4 goals.

Tabitha finished the season in the France Women’s League with fascinating news, named player of the season for the D1 Femmanine, but also player of the season under the Union National Footballers Professionals (UNFP) and shared the stage with the 2018 World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe who also won the accolade in men’s category.
