Opposition DPP pounces on legislators aligned with MCP: Chomonika, Joyce Chitsulo, Majaza Chambo
BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has asked Speaker of Malawi Parliament to declare seats vacant for its legislators who are working with President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance government.
DPP wants the following lawmakers’s seats be declared vacant; Joyce Chitsulo (Mwanza West), Ester Majaza (Mchinji North East), Benedicto Chambo (Mangochi North), Binton Kuntsayira (Lilongwe Nsinja North) and Owen Chomanika (Chikwawa North).
The party feels that its legislators have violated Section 65 of the Constitution.

DPP secretary general Clement Mwale says the listed MPs campaigned and won their respective seats on the manifesto and sponsorship of DPP.
He claims these lawmakers have now declared to change their political status from DPP to independent and some to MCP.
“This is a violation of section 65(1) of the constitution of the Republic of Malawi and their seats should be declared vacant,” says Mwale.
The MPs are yet to comment on the matter.
